Baking has commenced as the holiday cookie season is finally here! My mama makes sweet candy cane cookies every christmas and I attempted them for the first time solo. They cookies are finicky but with a little trial and error they turned out ok looking (and great tasting)!
Candy Cane Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. salt
Preheat the oven 375 degrees.
Mix the butter, shortening, powdered sugar and egg in mixer. Add in almond and vanilla extract. Once the mixture is combined add in the flour slowly. Then add the salt. Mix only until combined (and the dough will start to form a nice ball). Do not over mix.
Divide the dough in half and place in two separate bowls. Add 10 drops of red food coloring in 1 bowl of dough. Mix in with a fork.
Roll 1 teaspoon of each color dough into logs. Then place logs side by side and twist together. Place the twist onto parchment paper on a baking sheet and form into a candy cane shape. Bake 8-10 minutes.
