williamsburg schoolhouse

The founders of White Arrow, a Brooklyn based interiors and design studio, revealed their own home project this fall, a converted school house. The glamorous Williamsburg project looks nothing like the original utilitarian space it once was. The 1800's shell was dressed with custom Victorian millwork, tin ceiling tiles, salvaged doors, and claw foot tubs. The result is a spectacular statement of modern furniture and design in a historic jewelry box setting.

belmond grand hibernian

The Belmond Grand Hibernian is the latest in luxury train travel and is the first of its kind in Ireland. The train celebrated its inaugural voyage in August and is booked full for the upcoming months. Curated art and 5 star amenities are provided alongside views of the Irish countryside and a plethora of stops (ahem castle visits) and adventures. There is something so wonderful about the forced slow pace of a train, taking in the scenery, enjoying the journey... Anyone up for a trip to the Emerald Isle?

tianjin binhai library

The recently completed Tianjin Binhai Library, located in northeast China, is popping up everywhere on my feeds and the images are spectacular. Designed by the Dutch-based firm MVRDV, the project features an all white color palette and is shaped around a spherical auditorium, referred to as ‘the eye’. Terraced book shelves (accomodate a whopping 1.2 million volumes) are accessible for visitors to wander through. The cathedral-esque three year project is now near the top of this book lovers travel list.

miner road residence

The Miner Road Residence is nestled into a grove of oak trees on the Oakland Hills. The Bay Area home takes advantage of the pre existing tree canopy while striking a bold profile. The rectilinear structure features floor to ceiling windows, a Corten steel exterior, and native white oak interior. The fireplace in the living room was the only structural component kept from the home that previously occupied the lot. The Faulkner Architects masterpiece feels like the modern, high end treehouse of my dreams.
